Like most candidates, you are considering enrolling in a DAT class and are likely anxious to pass your exam on the first try for a number of reasons. First, of course, is the fact that should you not pass, you must wait a minimum of three months before rescheduling and retaking the test. Additionally, because your acceptance into dental school depends in part upon the results of the DAT, a failed first attempt could put you seriously behind other candidates.
Two other reasons for hoping to pass on the first try are due to the financial burden and as a matter of convenience.
- Each time you retake the exam, you have to reapply and pay all appropriate fees, wait to be accepted, schedule your next test, and try to pass the second time around.
- You will have three chances before you are required to wait for a period of 12 months reapplying. Obviously, going into the DAT unprepared will cost time and money, and it could also delay your studies by a year or more.
For this reason, you no doubt plan to prepare for your exam with a DAT class. You might be lucky enough to find a review class locally. However, for many people the drive time, cost of gas and parking, and need to follow the schedule set by the instructor make attending a face-to-face DAT class an inconvenient option.
Fortunately, there are many alternatives.
- Many review courses are offered online. You can find a DAT class that is taught in a virtual classroom with an instructor and classmates who meet online at a set day and time.
- Another option for individuals with limited time and resources—as well as for those who learn well independently—is to take an online course in which you work at your own pace.
