DAT Test Dates

A wide range of DAT test dates are available. The test is administered by Prometric and cannot be scheduled until you have applied through the American Dental Association and been approved.

Once you have received your eligibility number, which is sent to you along with a letter stating that you are qualified to take the test, you are eligible to schedule your test. The Prometric Contact Center will send you an email if an email address has been provided, or it will contact you by mail if you did not submit an email address. You will be given instructions about how to schedule your test.

After scheduling, we recommend that you print the confirmation page. If you discover an error in the DAT test dates, notify the Contact Center immediately at (800) 688-5804.

You must schedule and complete the test within one year of receipt of your letter of eligibility. We recommend scheduling your test two to three months in advance. This will most likely ensure you will be able to secure the best date, location, and testing time for your needs.

Should a conflict arise for the date you have reserved, rescheduling is allowed;

  • However, you will be charged an additional $25 fee.
  • To reschedule your DAT date, you must contact Prometric. Rescheduling your DAT test date must be completed before noon Eastern Time at least two business days prior to your original scheduled appointment.
  • It is important to follow these instructions; otherwise, you will sacrifice not only all fees associated with registering and testing, but you will be obligated to begin the process again with a new application.

Candidates who do not wish to reschedule but need to cancel their scheduled appointment can also do so, for a $25 fee. Again, you must adhere to the requirement of contacting Prometric at least 48 business hours in advance. You can then reschedule a new day, time, and location for the DAT at some future point in time, as long as the test date falls within the 12-month period. Remember that extensions are not given for any reason.

Although your DAT test date appointment reserves your seat, you must arrive and check in at least a half hour before your test is scheduled to begin. Candidates who arrive after testing has begun will not be seated, will forfeit test fees, and must reapply to test at a later date.
